Skills for a Lifetime,
On and Off the Golf Course

The development of young golfers is deeply embedded in our club culture. Crail Golfing Society boasts one of the most successful and thriving Junior Academies in Scotland, coaching over 70 young local golfers. The Junior Academy was developed and is managed by PGA Advanced Professional David Snodgrass, assisted by dozens of member volunteers, all equally passionate about inspiring the future of our game.

Mission

Inspiring the future of our game. Delivering junior golf opportunities and increasing participation in our local community by introducing kids to golf in a fun, safe and relaxed environment.

David Snodgrass

David Snodgrass is a PGA Advanced Professional, has been with the Club for 8 years, and brings over 12 years experience of delivering golf programmes dedicated to junior golfers. The Academy was launched in 2016 with participation growing every year.

Volunteers

A programme of this scale could not be successful without the dedication of dozens of local member volunteers. It is a sight to behold as young budding golfers move from one skill station to another interacting (mostly laughing) with their elders and their new golfing pals. Equally important is the role the volunteers undertake scoring the kids as they progress from the practice ground to the golf course.

Programme Overview

The Academy is aimed at kids aged between 7 and 15. The 15 week programme is completed once a year. Two 5 week blocks are completed in the spring (April to June) with the third 5 week block completed in the autumn (August to October). The programme blocks systematically introduce kids to putting, chipping, pitching, iron play and driving. As their skills progress they move from practice areas and are gradually and safely introduced to the golf courses. Juice and crisps are waiting in the Clubhouse for a social at the end of each session. The Academy concludes with graduation of sorts, more of a party, when the kids, their parents and all the volunteers get together for a burger night and prize giving.

FAQs

How much does the programme cost?

The total cost of attending the Academy is £95. This includes all 15 weeks of the programme but also includes a full years junior membership to the club. Your child does not need to be a junior member of the Club to attend Block 1 which is a cost of £12. Sign-up for junior membership at £59 typically follows, and then £12 for the remaining two blocks. This gives our young golfers access to the club, the facilities and all the other events geared to our junior golfers for the entire year. Junior Membership is a simple annual cost with no obligation or pressure to continue. This is our way as a club to encourage and develop grass roots golf that is safe, fun and above all inexpensive. Click here for more details on the unbeatable value of Junior Membership at Crail.

When does the programme start?

Actual start dates vary depending on the yearly school calendar. Typically Block 1 starts after the school Easter holidays with Block 2 finishing before the school summer holidays. Block 3 then starts after the school summer holidays and concludes prior to the school October break.

What day and time, and how long do sessions last?

Sessions are always Tuesday nights starting at 5pm. Sessions last approximately an hour and a half until 6.30pm.

Do I need my own equipment?

No, don't worry. When starting out the Club can provide clubs and equipment to use if you do not have any of your own. Kids do start to bring their own gear as they progress to golf on the course. David can advise you on the myriad of options to find both used and new equipment that will fit the player and the budget.

What can the kids wear?

Comfort is key. Sessions are outdoors so please dress appropriately for the weather. Dress code is relaxed at the Club. Generally sports gear is recommended, but we encourage our young golfers to leave their favourite football shirts for Saturdays!

Where can parents park?

The driving range at Crail Golfing Society has it's own car park; located on the left as you arrive at the golf club. The car park has ample space and is a reserved drop off and meeting point for our Junior Academy sessions.
