August 2019 Courses Report

Golf courses August report 2019

August has been a very wet and warm month with over 122mm of rain, which has made it difficult to gain greens speed due to the amount of growth.

Balcomie course

Greens – We are cutting daily at a height of 4mm and rolling/ironing when possible.  Spraying applications have been the monthly application of wetting agent & seaweed plus an application of liquid fertiliser.

Craighead course

Greens – We have started to reduce our cutting program but still at a height of 4mm and rolling/ironing in between cutting which helps reduce stress to the plant but keeps a smooth and true surface, spray applications has been wetting agent/seaweed and iron and applications of fungicide as the greens have been hit badly with disease due to the weather.

Both courses

Surrounds – We are still brushing/cutting twice weekly at a height of 8mm and have been trying to cut in different directions to stop napping of the grass surface.

Tees – We are still cutting twice a week at a height of 10mm and at the same time all tees are being divoted, bins emptied, ball washers topped up and broken tees etc picked up to help keep these areas tidy. We have made a start to scarifying the Craighead course tees and we have verti-cut the Balcomie course tees to help reduce thatch levels.

Fairways – We are cutting twice weekly at a height of 13mm and collecting the grass clippings to improve these areas.

The new shed extension has started and coming on very well

The Scottish Men’s Amateur last month went really well over both our courses
